All the students crowded around Sara Argiro while she was giving instructions.

Drama teacher Sara Argiro, just recently moved here from a small town near Huntsville, Alabama, with her husband of 16 years and her 12-year-old son. She teaches Honors Sophomore English, theater, and stagecraft.

She said when she was just five years old, her parents were both in a community college production of Westside Story and brought her to rehearsals once, and she was hooked. “I stopped wanting to stay home with the babysitter and begged to go to rehearsals and any production that was going on.”

In Alabama. she taught at a small K-12 school. She said that the senior class only had about 80 kids in it. “That’s the biggest difference in my opinion. Here, since it is a bigger campus, there are many more resources, but also a disconnect. At my last school, everyone knew everyone. At this school, kids go to school with people they may have never seen or heard of.”

verybody has been to her. “The staff and faculty and students have all been so open, and the theater students especially, are so open to doing things maybe a little differently than before and are so willing to participate.” 

Argiro is the director of the fall play; Nevermore, an eerie show about Edgar Allen Poe.
