Members of CK’s choir traveled to the University of Puget Sound on Friday, September 30th, and Saturday, October first, to sing in the Northwest High School Honor Choir Festival. Fifteen students from CK joined choir members from schools all around the Northwest to participate in a two-day workshop with special guest Dr. Eugene Rogers from the University of Michigan.

Festival closed with a performance open to the public on Saturday afternoon in Schneebeck Hall, the University’s music building.  The students prepared six songs, ranging from African folk to classical choral.

“At first, the songs looked really intimidating and hard to learn but after we spent some time breaking them down, everything fell into place,” said Emery.  The choir was accompanied by UPS students, conducted by Dr. Rogers, and streamed live on Schneebeck Hall’s website.

“The performance was incredible. It felt wonderful to be a part of such a beautiful moment,” said Emery.

When asked if she would recommend the experience to other choir students, Emery was quick to say, “One hundred percent. No question. No doubt about it. You have to try it.”
