Generous teachers and students amassed a pile of presents.

Once again, CKHS is having an adopt-a-family program, with St. Vincent De Paul and students from Olympic High School. U.S. History teacher Katherine Devnich started this as a community service project for her Achieve class, and now includes AVID. She also sent out emails to the entire staff to see who was interested in participating. The teachers who responded will have their classes work together to fill in the wants and needs of the wish list.

The teachers participating are Devnich, art teacher Dawn Adams, English teachers Katherine Miller and Debbi Duane, choir teacher Alicia Rodenko, math teacher Jessie French, and history teacher Scott Speck. They will be sponsoring 16 local kids. Each teacher has a list a of wants and needs, and if students want to participate, they should see any of the teachers involved. Some of the items that they will be collected for the families are socks, underwear, shirts, pants, shoes, and toys.

“Generally we look to spend $5-$50 max on gifts, Typically a normal gift costs around $20,” Devnich said. Also the gifts have to be new, they can’t be used. The teachers and students will be wrapping the gifts before they are delivered. This year they will not be collecting any food items. This is not the first year CK has done this. “Last year was way bigger, and I was surprised we pulled it off. It’s always stressful,” Devnich also added. She always enjoys watching her students come together and giving back to the community, however. They will be collecting gifts through Dec. 12, and delivering through Dec. 17.
