Donald J. Trump will be sworn in as the 45th President of the United States of America at noon on Friday, January 20th, 2017.  Much controversy surrounds both his campaign, the election, and the upcoming inauguration from worker strikes to parking permits being withheld for protesters to artists declining to play at the event. Here at CKHS, many students have differing feelings regarding our President-elect.

Regarding Trump’s winning campaign slogan, junior Jacob Kirschbaum said questioningly, “I don’t even know what the greatness was. He never said when he thought it was great… Like was it the Reagan era?”  On the other hand, senior Kyle Larson said, “I support him one hundred percent, but I don’t support all of his policies.”

Junior Addie Talbot explained, “Trump has become “better,” but I still don’t like him.  I really hope he doesn’t get assassinated because even though I hate Trump, I hate Pence more.” Talbot added, “I somehow hoped Hillary could’ve won.  I hope Trump realizes that being President of the United States is a lot more difficult than he thinks it is.  I hope he deletes his Twitter account too.”

Generally, she seemed to represent the student body, but there are some who are very vocal about their opinion regarding Trump.  While students such as junior Emily McCann mourned, “Honestly, I’m kind of afraid.  He has some ‘good things’, others not so much.”  Contrarily, junior Charles Lewis exclaimed, “I’m looking forward to what Trump will do will do to our country. Build a wall!”

At the end of the day, despite the varied ideas surrounding the Trump controversies, these Cougars agreed that we are still one Cougar nation, and they would gladly support our President even when they don’t always agree with his rhetoric or policies.
