New Alt School

The building that used to be a call center, will now be a Community School.

Coming up in Fall, 2017, Barker Creek Community School will be the new alternative school for Central Kitsap School District. Senior Kayleigh Wriser, a full time student at the alternative said,  “I think it is a good thing that they are moving the school. Moving into a new building will allow more students to attend the alternative, which is a great option for students like me that don’t fit into a normal high school.” The school board chose a name for the new school in December at the board meeting. Barker Creek will be at the corner of McWilliams and Highway 303 in Bremerton. The building used to be a call center, but CKSD bought the building after the call center closed down. There are plans to renovate the building to accommodate students and teachers. “I hope to see better technology and classrooms. The current alternative school is outdated and hinders performance while trying to get projects done. With more technology, students will be more productive and enjoy the work that they’re doing,” added Wriser. The school hopes to open for the the 2017-2018 school year, as long as no complications occur.
