Playing bass, Collin Rose, not only takes on the stage time but has worked hours in preparation of the cause.

On Friday, April 21st, local bands set the tone for communal support of Kathy Beckstrom, who is fighting brain cancer. Beckstrom’s condition caught the eye of her former elementary student, Collin Rose. Not knowing whether or not others had incited a way of fundraising for her treatment, Rose talked to the owners of Charleston in West Bremerton to see if he could use their location as a venue for a concert.

Seniors Collin Rose and Cameron Wood and CKHS graduate, JJ Halterman, contributed to Kathy’s Fight through attendance and performance.

Rose integrated local bands, such as Asterhouse from Seattle; Animaldog from Bremerton; an acoustic act, Ryan Anthony Brooks, who was brought on by Surrender The Crown Booking for the fundraiser; as well as his own band, Raygun Jones. The turnout was more than expected. According to Rose, “over 50 people attended and contributed $435” to go towards treatments and any other costs that Beckstrom would need to cover. It was a “big turnout for a local venue,” said Rose, and his efforts in gathering the community continues to reciprocate into the life of Beckstrom and those who support her.

Senior Cameron Wood played with Raygun Jones for their 25 minutes during the fundraiser.
