Sophomores Tanya Emery, Ashyia Wainright, and Madi Sasabi had key parts in the Great American Musical.

CK choir has a big musical every year. This year it was the Great American Musical. The show incorporated different musicals (Rent, Newsies, Hairspray and Music Man)  into one in a timeline format. It started with songs from the musical Newsies. Newsies was placed throughout the show to transition to the different musicals with the help of senior AJ Towers.

The Kitsap Chordsmen made an appearance in the show. The group donated 15,000 to CK Choir for new sound equipment.

As they transitioned to Music Man, senior Ethan Albro and junior Cailtyn McConnel went through a love story and sang a beautiful duet. “It was absolutely amazing,” said senior Conner Spannuth.

CK’s Treble Choir opened up Hairspray with a bang. Junior Anjelica Montanez-Rowek played the character Tracy Turnblad and senior Wesley Baldwin played the character Edna Turnblad. In an attempt to turn Edna “hip” Tracy and Link ( played by junior Cody Davis) and Treble choir welcomed Edna to the “60s”.

During intermission, the Choir teacher, Alicia Rodenko, was on a mission to raise money for CK choir by auctioning off homemade desserts. They raised roughly two-thousand dollars. “I would like to thank everyone that came but especially the people that donated. It is greatly appreciated,” said senior Ethan Albro.

The second half of the show included songs from the hit musical Rent. Senior Jordan Eller and junior Christina King played the characters Maureen Johnson and Joanne Jefferson and sang a duet together entitled,  “Take me or Leave me.” Senior Chellie LaBonete ended the show singing a solo  titled, “Without you”  that took everyone’s breath away.

There were a number of other choir students that had featured solos like sophomores Zoe Hazen, Tanyna Emery, Gia Acosta, and Justina Le, and Junior Kacey Morris.

Overall, the musical was a big success for CK choir. This was a wonderful musical and will be hard to top next year. I encourage everyone to go see their final performance for the year in May. Great job to all the CK choir kids!
