Senior skip day

Seniors are very pleased with the tradition of Senior skip day.

Senior skip day is an annual event that only seniors are allowed to participate in and is usually held  the Monday following Senior Prom. Stated in the name, it is basically just a day where seniors don’t go to school and get a break before graduation.

Senior Chloe Tuttle participated in senior skip day this year because she “wanted to have fun with friends.” On her day off, Tuttle went to the lake and had a bonfire. Participating in senior skip day isn’t a big deal according to chloe, “skipping actually helped me be able to perform better in school because i got a break from working and was less stressed.” She recommends future senior classes to participate in senior skip day if they can because “it’s a lot of fun and it’s a nice break at the end of the year before graduation.”

Senior Sean Eidsvaag also participated in senior skip day because “it’s been a fun tradition for people and i wanted to make some memories before everyone goes to college.” While on his day off, Eidsvaag went to the lake for most of the day and hung out with friends after that. Eidsvaag states, “skipping one day has absolutely no effect on your grades so it’s not a big deal to do it once.” He highly recommends seniors to participate because “its one of the last things you can do in high school!”

School administration reactions can vary in response to Senior Skip Day. Some schools openly encourage the practice, helping the students pick a day to take off and advising teachers not to schedule quizzes or exams on the given skip day. Other schools may severely punish students for willfully being absent from school and will go to the extent of assigning detention, suspending students, or even going so far as to provide a failing grade or withdrawing a college recommendation.
