Feelings on Second Semester

Second semester has just started, kids got new classes as well as teachers getting new students. Electives are being changed and in some cases, some all year classes are getting switched around. While convenient for new electives to be taken, it also provides chances to meet new people and an opportunity to learn new subjects.

Students and teachers might have a different perspective on the new semester. Laura Jackson is the calligraphy and civics teacher and has gotten all new rosters for her classes. Jackson says “I have all new classes so trying to learn everyone’s name is the hardest part, I really want to learn all my students names.” She teaches five out of six classes, which means lots of students. Teaching a new group of students is a great time for teachers to learn how a new group works. She says “I teach one of the most fun classes, iI have really great kids in my classes. To see them start of and then get to see where they end up is great.”

Olivia Conrad is in her first year in high school as a freshman. She has gotten to experience her first year with some fun classes. She says “I like my new classes, however I don’t like my elective, It’s Lifetime activity and I’m not athletic.” Conrad is experiencing the many classes that are offered at a high school including lifetime activity. Getting through high school with a good time is ideal for most students. Conrad thinks “I would be happy with the outcome if it was the same as the first. I got good grades and enjoyed most classes.”

Having to teach multiple groups of students has its difficulties, Daniel Sullivan teaches leadership, ancient civilizations and coaches girls golf. New semester means new ways to accomplish tasks. Sullivan says “The biggest differences this semester will be planning for all of the graduation festivities and coaching girls golf.” Students can find different ways to learn with the help of their teachers. Sullivan wants to help his students succeed. “I hope that through my teaching, students will become engaged citizens within their community.”

Overall most students and staff are happy with how second semester has started. The classes are getting into the swing of things and starting to learn new topics and lessons. This semester has much to bring including dances and spring sports starting.
