The school looks out as times change.

The CKHS building, which has stood strong and tall for nearly 100 years, shows cougar pride and spirit throughout Kitsap County. But sadly like all things that come to an end, this school will be replaced. We have had many fun and exciting memories in this school and it will be hard to let go. But luckily next year we all will be having the new and improved school for the class of 2020 and beyond.

The new school “is going to be amazing with the new technology and working temperature control,” explains Taylor Bick, a Junior at CK this year. However, she also thinks it “will be bittersweet for some people because of the memories at the old school”.

While others like John Draxler, Junior from CKHS has described “[the new school] is overhyped because there are no lockers and I don’t like the modern look of the building”.

There are many different opinions about the new school both positive and negative. However, the majority of juniors at CKHS think the same about how it will feel to be the first graduating class of 2020 in the new building. Anthony Lott says “It’s going to be radical” because the new building will be better equipped with better technology.

While the opinion of Derek Johnson, Junior from CKHS said, “I think it will be very hectic because everything will be very confusing since it will be the first time there”.

People were asked if they are glad to have the new building, one of them being Allen Squire, who states he is happy for the new building “because it will be a major improvement compared to this building”. Some of the new improvements — including the new water bottle fountains and cafeteria — will be a large change compared to this building.

Jon Draxler described that he was excited to have the new school, “For safety reasons… and that it should be more secure”. By secure, Jon refers to the new attendance office buzzing in students after the first bell to completely secure the school to intruders.

Although the old building will not be used for schooling, parts of the building will be used as a library and the new district office. Even though things come to an end it will also create a new beginning.
