The Central Kitsap High School student body has been excited for months at the idea of moving into a new school. With the new campus comes space for classes and sports that could not be fit in the current building.

In the new campus we have a whole extra building for career & technical courses.  The possibilities going forward are very exciting, and I know the staff who will teach in those spaces would love to answer any questions students have about the programs.” states Steve Trunky, librarian at CK.

Along with a new technical building we will also be able to ditch the portables, and trade the classrooms on an old loading dock for new rooms specialized for the courses. Classrooms will be fitted with giant touch screens instead of projectors and pull down screens. The high school will also be fitted with a new parking lot as well as tennis courts and our own football stadium so the CK football team will no longer have to travel to the fairgrounds stadium for home games.

One of the exciting things about moving into a new building is that we’ll have fast and reliable network connections everywhere.  There is a big difference between a building designed from ground up to have new wiring, access where we need it, and equipment such as wireless access points placed in optimal locations versus a retrofitted old building.” Says Mr. Trunkey.

Chromebooks will hopefully no longer randomly lose internet connection after traveling from one part of the school to another and equipment will be standardized in all classrooms.

Classrooms themselves will also be standardized, no longer will some classrooms be burning hot and others freezing cold.

With the technological advancements that we will have in the new building, there will also be new common areas for students to relax and socialize in as well as matching furniture and desks in every room unlike the current uneven tables and the broken chairs.

There will also be a new, large auditorium in the school that will not only be used for performances and concerts held by the school, but also open for public use. The parking lot was prioritized and was expanded, designed to free up traffic in the area.

In September, the current CKHS will no longer be in use to teach students. Students of year 2020 will be the first to graduate from the new campus and students of 2024 will be the first to have their entire high school experience in the building. Next year, most of the current campus will be torn down. The last part of the school left will be the 900’s wing which will hold both the Jenne-Wright building and the Silverdale KRL. Together lets make the 2019/2020 school year great, Cougs.
