Most teenagers who not only attend Central Kitsap High School, either use or know about vape products. Over the past year or so, vaping has increased its popularity among many adolescents and young adults. It’s very common to walk into the bathroom at a public high school, and see students vaping in one of the stalls.

The brand “Juul” has addressed that their product has special tools to keep the device from exploding. Juul has become a preference among most teens at CKHS because of easy accessibility. Juuls are built small and seem to be unnoticeable when used openly in public schools.

There have been several reported deaths tied to vaping, which have surfaced in the last few months. There haven’t been many studies done on the long-term effects of vaping. “People know the effects will be negative,” says Mark Keel, a football coach at CKHS. “My biggest concern is under aged kids not knowing what they are digesting into their bodies.¨ he says. Lung cancer caused by smoking has become a higher risk this past year due to e-cigarette popularity. Health risks are steadily becoming worse as more people decide to start juuling. Recent deaths and health issues have been occurring specifically because of e-cigarettes like Juul, for people between the ages of 15-34. Beginner smokers are most likely to lean towards juuling, as it is on trend and easier to obtain than other smoking mechanisms.

Juul is currently facing lawsuits because of the nicotine addiction problems young people are harmed with. Juul is known for its higher amounts of nicotine compared to other vapes, specifically in Juul pods. Perla Duran, a sophomore at Central Kitsap High School stated, ̈Now with a lot of kids having vapes and stuff, it gives others the opportunity to try it with their friends so more and more people start doing it,̈ Given the fact that Juul has been around for about 4 years, the chances of higher health risks for teens who use Juul are factual. Whether someone uses other vape or not vape products to inhale tobacco or nicotine, Their health status will decrease.

According to an article from NPR news, Juul has been asked to stop selling products to the United States and accepted it.  Specifically flavored juices. Gas stations around Washington State have already taken the pods off of shelves and don’t intend to sell them until further notice. New York, Michigan, and Massachusetts are the only other states so far to ban vape products.

Perhaps the lack of vape juice being sold will decrease the number of smokers or complete banning of the product. Only the future will tell what will happen next, concerning Juul’s Impact on people.
