Three times a school year all the staff and students meet together to share their Cougar pride. Prior to the energy-filled skits and screaming, there is a lot of time and planning that has to happen. The executive ASB has to get together and discuss what they think the students of CK would like to see. Then those ideas are brought to Activities Director Katie Staker and the leadership class begins to help promote the spirit week.

Staker said, “Pep assemblies take months to prepare for. We have to write and edit a script for the M.C., create a budget for the assembly, and each class has to start to prepare skits to compete for the spirit stick.”

The days prior to pep assemblies are spirit weeks. Spirit week is an opportunity to earn your class points toward the all-mighty and powerful spirit stick. The spirit week before the last pep assembly, the ASB puts on a food drive. When students brought items for the food drive their class earned points towards the spirit stick. Another component of spirit weeks are the dress-up days. The most recent spirit week consisted of the red carpet, twin day (Seeing double), favorite Washington State sports team, neon day, and finally class colors.

In the end, the Freshmen won the spirit stick. Many upper classmen were upset about the outcome. Senior Ariel Jose said, “I just thought their skit wasn’t that good, the sophomore’s was way better, and the seniors brought in the most food for the food drive. So I don’t understand how the freshmen won.”
