The recent fundraiser for pie-ing teachers in the face has just ended, and the results are in. This fundraiser has been a week-long Coin Drive to help raise money and awareness for Leukemia and Lymphoma. Only teachers who volunteered for it participated, and each of the teachers were given a box that was collected at the end of the day. The teacher that raised the most money would be ‘penalized’ by choosing to either be pied in the face or be taped to a wall.

According to Katie Staker, science teacher and head of the fundraiser, the fundraiser was put on and sponsored by the Anatomy and Physiology class for two reasons: the first being to support research for Leukemia and Lymphoma, and the second being that the students needed an opportunity to practice leadership and service in the community. The overall amount they hoped to raise was somewhere between $300 to $500.

During this fundraiser, some teachers took the chance to have a friendly rivalry. To be exact, Ms. Adams, the art teacher, and Katherine Devnich, a history teacher as well as the AP coordinator.

Their rivalry was fairly intense, especially considering that it got to the point where the two teachers were sending students to each other’s classrooms to place money in their boxes. It was all in good fun, of course.

In fact, as quoted by Dawn Adams, “Anytime silliness can be used to raise awareness for something, that’s great.”

Finally, after the fundraiser has ended, the totals are in and the results are out. Adams is in first place with $74.27,  Devnich is in second with $69.79, and Gac is in third place with $61.87. Hopefully we’ll be able to get to at least one of them be pied in the face. But the final total amount raised was approximately $328, which is right within the amount that they hoped to raise. It is clear that with the amount of money raised, as well as the fun it creates, that this fundraiser was a success.
