The cougar carnival is an event that the school is hosting on Thursday, June 2nd, from 1:30-4:30. This event will have carnival games set up by many different clubs, food, music, and free snow cones. You can get in for free, but you must have your school ID card.

Many clubs are participating in this event and facilitating many different games.

There’s one that one club that’s doing hopscotch and other ones doing tournaments, they have several different games in one area that’s supposed to lead up to the one final showdown,” said Jade Pederson, a senior at Central Kitsap High School as well as the student doing most of the organization for the carnival. “There’s also people who are going to be doing ring toss, corn hole, and then the ASL club is thinking about doing a sack race.”

Most large clubs are participating including but not limited to:

“People that are involved, of course there’s ASL club, which is helping with all the hosting and such, Building Female Leaders, Cooking and Connections Club, they’re going to be running a hot dog stand there, the DND Club, Environmental Club, HOSA, Math Club, New Kids Club, SkillsUSA, and then the Gaming Club, and the French Club,” said Pederson.

The Cooking and Connections Club is going to be serving hot dogs at the event.

We are going to be flipping hot dogs and giving away hot dogs for free,” said Alicia Flint, the teacher advisor of the Cooking and Connections Club. Flint also mentioned that starting this year you do not have to complete Foods two to join the club.

Jeff Schmitt, who is the photography and yearbook teacher, and is also the lead teacher involved with setting up the carnival, claims that there is a possibility that there will be original music  along with the covers of better known songs.

“We have already booked three bands for sure that are coming in, We have the finalists from The Battle of the Bands that are going to do a little bit of their set and they’re doing new music.

One of the many draws to this event is free snow cones brought by the PTA and a local Native American tribe.

“We have the PTA on board and they’re bringing in the snow cone truck and hopefully 1500 Free snow cones,” said Schmitt.

Most of the school’s common areas are going to be open for the event inside and outside.

“We’re gonna have the front terrace, the commons, right outside and the drop off area, that whole area all the way up to the gym, and ending with probably the snow cone truck,” said Schmitt.

This is going to be one of the biggest events that the school has ever hosted, and the turn out is expected to be huge.

“I mean, we want a full out carnival festival,” said Schmitt. “End of the year. They just survived two years of all of this stuff. It’s time to party. It’s time to blow it out. I mean, the sky’s the limit…This is not a one and done. This is something that’s going to hopefully launch a new tradition here at the school.”
