In most schools, there tends to be the general popular topics that students prefer. Those topics for a lot of schools are Math, English and Science. Recently the question has come up from CK staff members of what the most popular topic is for students at CK.

Following up from this question was a survey conducted of 250 students asking their favorite between the three subjects.

When conducting the survey, it became known very quickly that English was the most popular subject among the student body. A whopping 84.4 percent of students in the survey said that English was their favorite topic. Coming in second place was science taking up 11.6 percent of favorite topics. And in third place was math with 4.4 percent of students claiming math to be their favorite topic.

After conducting this survey, it can be safe to say that CK students as a whole prefer English over any other topic. It was surprising to see that Math had such low number of students that prefer the topic because most people would think that the numbers would be a little more even.

Now that the numbers have been explained, the next rising question would be why do students prefer their topics? “ I like English because Mrs. Zinke makes it very fun and it is interesting learning about the English history of our Nation,” said student Kira Barrick. Kira’s favorite topic has not always been English, just in recent years English has been her favorite topic in school.

The fact that science came in second place was surprising at first but one student’s explanation described why: “there are so many areas and fields of science, that I can spend an entire lifetime studying and I still wouldn’t cover it all,” said Zachary Flores. This was a very intelligent answer that most people would not think of when thinking why they might like science.

There were only 11 students out of 250 that stated they preferred math as a favorite subject. “My dad is an engineer, so I have been around a lot of math since first grade,” said student Sarah Kirschbaum. Most of the people that chose math as a favorite subject had family background in math.

Overall conducting the survey and interviewing people was very enlightening and for those who had the question of favorite subjects of students, English was a far leader by 84.4 percent.
