Review: ‘Werewolf by Night’
A new Halloween special on Disney Plus called “Werewolf By Night” shows a much darker and scarier side of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, where characters are dressed in their various hunting attire, ready for the night that lies ahead. This special is a great watch when you’ve got time to kill.
To summarize this special, monster hunters gather at the house of their leader, Ulysses Bloodstone (Richard Dixon) because of the event of his death. They soon find out that they have been gathered to compete in a contest for the bloodstone; a red jewel that provides increased strength, speed, healing, and the ability to withstand vampires.
The contest is hosted by Verussa Bloodstone (Harriet Sansom Harris) with the help of her servant Billy Swan ( Al Hamacher), and it consists of capturing a monster set loose in the maze.
The hunters gathered are Jack Russell (Gael Garcia Bernal), Elsa Bloodstone (Laura Donnelly), Jovan (Kirk R. Thatcher), Azarel (Eugenie Bondurant), Liorn (Leonardo Nam) and Barasso (Daniel J. Watts). Elsa is the leader’s daughter and Jack has the highest number of kills of the hunters because he’s a werewolf.
This Halloween special is just under an hour long, spanning 53 minutes, and is directed by Michael Giacchino. This director is usually known for his cinematic music composing, in fact this is only the second movie he’s ever directed.
