‘The Marvels’ First Trailer and First Reaction
On the morning of April 11, 2023 Marvel Studios released the highly anticipated first look at the new movie “The Marvels” starring Brie Larson, Teyohna Parris, and Iman Vellani.
I pride myself on being an avid Marvel fan. With the multitude of comic books that I own and having seen all of the movies and television shows. One show I particularly enjoyed was “Ms. Marvel” which was released in late 2022.
It follows the story of 16-year-old Muslim American teen Kamala Khan and her journey in surviving high school along with newfound super powers. It is a coming of age superhero story and I loved it.
Quite controversially I also loved the 2019 movie “Captain Marvel” that is the predecessor to the new upcoming movie “The Marvels”.
Marvel fans have known since the post credit scene from “Ms. Marvel” that something strange has been brewing with Captain Marvel switching places with Khan. Now we finally can see a glimpse of the movie that is set to be released in late 2023. The trailer was dropped the morning of April 11th but was announced to be released the day before.
It starts with Monica Rambeau in space with Nick Fury when she touches a strange light and suddenly switches places with Khan in a hilarious mix up. We all knew that Parris’s character would be a main character in this movie alongside Captain Marvel and Ms. Marvel but it is still exciting to see her for the first time since “Wandavision”.
The trailer does not give much away in terms of plot but it has many exciting action sequences and funny banter between the three characters. It will be interesting to see the dynamic between the teen fan-girl character of Khan and the more mature adult characters of Captain Marvel and Rambeau.
The cinematography is beautiful especially in one particular scene where there seems to be a dance number in which Captain Marvel switches places with Ms. Marvel. All around I personally am so excited for this movie to come out, it has been and will continue to be on the top of my 2023 watch list.
