Environmental Club Values Under New Advisor
The 2021-22 Environmental Club’s goals and new advisor.
The Central Kitsap High School Environmental Club is a club that hopes to spread information and take action regarding the environment and the CK community.
The Environmental Club recently began being advised by Kaitlin Caylor, a current science teacher at CK. She is taking over for the former advisor, Mr.Wilson.
“I thought that as a biology teacher [and] the environment being something I’m super passionate about, I thought that it would be a good fit, and a good way to be involved in the school community as a new teacher,” Caylor said.
The Environmental Club is all about bringing awareness, justice, servicing the community, and resilience. They go over environmental issues that impact the community, state, and the globe.
“I think that we bring awareness to the student body… we can gather around and talk about what’s important and what we think the school can act on … and spread that information,” Caylor says.
The Environmental Club’s goal is to empower and inform the student body of Central Kitsap High School on how to take part in environmentalism.
Part of the club’s mission is to inform the students, not only in the club, but throughout the whole school.
One goal is for this to impact the whole community as the information and ideas the club will trickle out. This will gain greater support for environmental beliefs outside of the school.
As a member, making ideas and implementing them while thinking positively, and taking action with a service component
“Members can… participate in community service hours that are environmentally related,” Caylor said. “We have a community garden they can work in. There’s also outside opportunities as well just to get involved because a big part of environmental justice is taking action.”
If interested in joining the Environmental Club, join them for their meetings every other Friday at 2:45 in room 3231.
