National Honors Society is a club at Central Kitsap High School. The main goal for the NHS is to help and aid the community by volunteering to see their communities thrive.

There are four pillars to the foundation of the NHS. Scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Every member contributes to it in their way.

“I would say, it’s just a great way to help volunteer for your community,” Michelle Sotelo, the NHS Advisor, said. “It’s also really fun connecting with your friends, and going to the same event with your friends while knowing you’re helping other people is super fun.”

NHS can give others fond memories and great connections with others.

“…There was this event down at the mall and all of these old ladies were putting together a craft fair.” Kathryn McDonald, President of NHS, said, “We went down there to help them and it was just so fun. Just hearing all of them talk about their life stories, and just putting together these crafts for hours and it was just so fun…”

To join, you have to have at least a 3.4 GPA, be prepared to attend 50% of the meetings, and do a minimum of 20 service hours with 5 group hours. Group hours are advertised and or sponsored at meetings. Volunteer hours do not include anything that gets the student paid, such as babysitting.

On the National Honors Society Google Classroom, there are some plentiful opportunities and resources there that will help you in the future. The Google Classroom code is zlcjh72. The meetings will be held on Wednesdays in the mornings from 7:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. in Mr. Birkenfeld’s room (Room 3237) and afternoons from 2:40 p.m. to 2:55 p.m.
