The National Honor Society club has been active and positively contributing to the environment  at Central Kitsap High School as far as Central Kitsap staff members can remember.

The National Honor Society is a national club and organization that operates in all 50 states. The organization was founded in 1921 and aims its goals around the four pillars: scholarship, service, leadership, and character.

In order to join the National Honor Society at Central Kitsap, students must have and maintain at least a 3.4 gpa. Students must also pay the necessary dues, complete 20 hours of community service, sign up through final forms, and attend at least 50% of the meetings.

Michelle Sotelo, the advisor of Central Kitsap High School’s NHS, explained that in order for seniors to graduate with a NHS stole, the requirements listed in the previous paragraph must be met.

NHS meets every other Wednesday in the morning in Paul  Birkenfeld’s room or in the afternoon in the auditorium. Meetings are led by the NHS officers and go over upcoming service projects and events where members can volunteer.

“ On November 16th, current members will have the opportunity to volunteer and invite other students to join NHS at the club’s fair,” said Sotelo

This is a great chance to invite in students and make them aware of the club and what’s going on since one of the main goals of the club is to continue to grow the membership.

“The organization is amazing. Not only do we have it here at CK High, but it is National Honor Society. You are joining an organization that has a long standing history of service, leadership, scholarship, and character.  There are national and school level scholarships available too,” said Sotelo.

The National Honor Society poses as an excellent way to get involved with Central Kitsap High School and the community.
