Closed campus lunches may be in the past

Central Kitsap is currently a closed campus, meaning once a student steps onto campus it is against the rules to leave until school is dismissed. This policy is meant to ensure to parents the students’ safety during school hours, however it has become a controversial topic amongst students. Zach Green is against CK’s current standing of closed lunches,

“Having a closed campus limits students” he expresses with dismay. When questioned if the administration should trust the students, Green shoots back saying “Most students are responsible for driving themselves to and from school anyway, if they were planning to skip they would have already.” Another student who wishes to remain anonymous also spoke to support a more free lunch, “I would definitely use it, it should at least be an option for juniors and seniors”. Open lunches would mean a wider variety than what school lunches offer, and shorter lines.

Students can voice their opinions at ASB forums held in the cafeteria, and can open discussion regarding open lunches. Students are encouraged to attend and advocate for any changes they may have for the school, or voice any other concerns they feel need to be addressed.
