There are many clubs at CKHS and the Robotics Club is one of them. This club meets throughout the school year for the sole purpose of learning how to design, build, and program a robot. The meetings take place in room 242A in the auto shop on Tuesdays from 3pm to 5pm and is run by Mr. Booth.

The club aims to teach youth who strive to learn the fundamentals of design, programming, and creating robots for the purpose of competing in upcoming competitions.

These competitions are as follows. Two district competitions that add up to a major district championship and finishes with a national tournament. The objective of each of the competitions varies every year.

In order to be eligible to compete each participant in the club must follow a set of guidelines to compete. They must pay a fee of $150 and raise at least $100 from a local business while also registering with FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) via email by October 28th 2017. Parent(s) must also attend a mandatory meeting for the purpose of learning what the club and the competitions are about.

Various team positions are held within the club. The highest possible position being the Team Captain who is responsible for making decisions for the team. In order to be eligible one must have at least two years of experience in robotics along with leadership skills as well as commitment and enthusiasm to the program. Various other positions include the Treasury, Secretary, and Co. Captain.

Lauren Judd said in an interview, “There is so much you can do. Everyone gets along”. The club has a very friendly atmosphere and is quite welcoming to new comers.

Other students commented on the kinds of things that are taught in the club class. Ethan Rugg said, “Teaches us how to manage finances.” This is evident in the costs that must be distributed into the machinery that goes into building the robots and allowing the club to compete.

The robotics clubs is a great place for people to go and learn to make robots while creating friendships. The club is extremely informative and can increase one’s knowledge in various fields of science and math. It is of the highest recommendation that anyone with these interests goes to a meeting.
