Attendance policy gets more strict in the new school year

Central Kitsap High School has made minor changes to their attendance policy. Changes will be made to how students are disciplined and a new approach will be taken to figure out how to improve the attendance rate and decrease the the number of tardies.
“We have had too many unexcused absences in the past, which can disrupt your learning in multiple ways,” says new co-principal Craig Johnson, “being called out of class to excuse your absences is time consuming, and wastes learning opportunities. Walking in and out of the classroom forces the the class to be interrupted and can totally throw some people off track.”
Having to constantly write tardy slips and or unexcused absence slips can be avoided by simply showing up to class on time. So to combat the the constant slip writing, changes have been made to the attendance policy.
“If I myself [Ms. Roberts] have to call you to my office, you will receive a warning. After that, every time you come in it will just be a detention. After three times you will receive in school suspension, and or discuss your punishment with an administrator.”
When asking Ms. Affjay if she thinks the new attendance policy will work, her reply came with no hesitation.
“I think when there is a school with 1400+ plus students in it, you are bound to have numerous, and at times what feels like endless tardies. But only time will tell if the new policy works.”
She also added that so far, students seem to be treating attendance as usual.
