School issued Chrombooks

Starting this year 2017 students at Central Kitsap High School have been supplied with Chromebooks, a computer that students may use to do various work. This means that students will all have an equal opportunity to do homework and classwork without having to worry about having their own computer. However one set back to the Chromebooks is WiFi due to some students maybe not having the source needed to get online. Since the school provided them there is a very strict filter on the searches to assure that students are not abusing the power lent to them. A meeting on Oct 11 Took place that allowed some insight with these computers. Craig Johnson evaluated that “Over the years the biggest gap between success is unequal opportunity to technology.” so by supplying this he hopes to see a drop in the gap and see a higher success rate. However things may not be as they seem. When asked if there was a decrease in the gap yet Mr.Johnson claimed “Not yet however it is still early in the year.” The optimistic view shows that he is hopeful that the program of Chromebooks will truly help the schools success rate. Another reason they’re used for schooling is the battery can last between eight to eleven hours which is a big time frame for a student to go to school work and come home with battery to spare. However students may not see eye to eye with the administration like one student who said “Uhm they’re alright once you get used to them.” stated Tristan Barr which seems to be very common. A study done by google showed that over forty-eight percent of the students studied disliked the Chromebooks. So next time your school is offered a program maybe the people using them should be asked how they feel over the subject.
