Students look forward to homecoming weekend every year. Friday is the Homecoming game and Saturday is the first dance of the year. For seniors this is a very special time because they will graduate and never experience homecoming again. Central Kitsap’s homecoming was held on October 7, 2017. It was scheduled to go from 7:15 PM to 11:15 PM. Unfortunately the dance was cut short about 45 minutes due to the fact that many students left early, and the music was not up to par.

Students were told they could make song suggestions to the DJ but they did not seem to work out. Charlie Brown commented on the quality of the music at the dance and said, “the music was without a doubt the worst part about the dance. If there is no dance music, how is anyone going to dance? It does not make sense.”

Besides the music, senior Reece Wood commented on how he felt the dance went.  “I did not enjoy the dance. It sucked actually. I had high hopes because it was senior year but Mr. Johnson let me down. I was only there for about 45 minutes before I left” says senior Reece Wood.

Students from visiting schools commented how they felt about the dance. “I hated the fact that we had to dance face to face with the girls” says senior Kii Neal who attends North Kitsap High School. “Also the DJ was not really playing any music you could actually dance to and i did not understand why.”

Another student commented the quality of her night, she replied with “There was not a lot of guys not dancing, so I just had to dance with my girl friends.” says senior Elise Carlson

Homecoming is supposed to be a memorable and fun night that all Cougar peers can enjoy, but this year was not that.

Senior Reece Wood gave his opinion on how the dance could change “The only way to make the dance better is to let the students let loose and have fun.”

There is always next year to improve the quality of the dance and make sure the students of Central Kitsap High School genuinely enjoy their time at the Homecoming dance. If you would like to see improvements in your Cougar Homecoming you can take your ideas to the Associated Student Body or Ms. Staker. If you end up on homecoming court there is always a chance to improve the quality of the dance.
