The Art of Calligraphy
A Certain Form of Writing
October 16, 2017
Calligraphy is an art class taught by Laura Jackson, in room 315, who teaches advanced calligraphy as well. Other than calligraphy, she teaches Civics and English Resource Room.
Jackson fears that technology is overtaking education. Schools and the new generation are getting into technology and dropping the pen and paper form of learning. All students learn differently, whether it’s on paper, technology, visuals, or hearing.
Jackson says that calligraphy is an art form. “Nothing is more beautiful than ink on paper.” Calligraphy has died out but it’s importance is becoming more popular. With technology taking over, people miss lettering by hand and writing on paper and handing them in as gifts, or for charity. Taking classes in college, Jackson really fell in love with the art form. Taking community art classes, she became intrigued in writing calligraphy, which made her want to learn even more and teach others.
Calligraphy is an inspiration to many people, Jackson wants to teach her students the importance and show them that it is more than just fancy lettering. Students could inspire and surprise themselves with their education of art skills.
