On Thurs. Oct. 12, Girls Volleyball had a home game against Peninsula and they won 3-0.They played well, according to Coach Dragan Karadzic.

“This was one of our best matches, I was very happy,” says Karadzic, “[There was] a lot of energy. We’ve had a lot of up and down as far as the energy we exude on the court and we’ve been working hard on that, so it was great to see tons of energy out there. We did play this team earlier in the year and they beat us three games to zero, so it was nice to come back and give it back to them.”

Many spectators thought that the team did better tonight than they had in some of their previous matches.

“The girls played a lot better tonight because they made fewer mistakes, they followed up on tips and dug the ball out and moved their feet a lot more than before,” says Rainer Kunz, a spectator who has been to every game this season, “On top of that, they did a lot of great blocking.”

Karadzic says that Peninsula had a few starters out due to injury, and admits that it most likely affected the outcome of the game. However, he believes that it was due to Central Kitsap’s defense that the team won the game.

This game was important to the team because it was one of three that they would have to win to qualify for districts.

“It’s really exciting…being closer to possibly placing in districts,” Says senior and captain Leah Kunz.

During this game the teams showed more than your average sportsmanship. The Central Kitsap players all wore green ribbons in their hair during the game in tribute to the students that Peninsula lost recently.

“Since our opponent was Peninsula today, and they had two students that had gotten in accidents and sadly passed away, to honor that and show our respect we wore the green ribbons to symbolize [our support],” Says Leah Kunz.
