It’s about more than just grades

National Honor Society (NHS) is a program that many schools have. It honors the students who do an outstanding job in all of the classes they are taking in high school. Our school has many students in this program, Central Kitsap High School has a very intelligent student body which explains why there are so many students in National Honor Society. Serenity Steward, President of NHS, explained that in order to be a part of National Honor Society you have to have an accumulative GPA of 3.4 or higher and you have to attend at least 70 percent of the meetings.
“It is just a good way to explore different perspective views of life and maybe some people in a class setting only discuss academic things but then in things like Honor Society, you get to know how other people think about certain subjects that you haven’t thought of or just a different perspective of life with different experiences,” Amanda Park, Secretary of NHS, explains why the club can be beneficial to your future.
In National Honor Society you also have to volunteer somewhere in your community. Woon Na, Vice President of NHS, describes what it’s like to volunteer in your community, “It is very unifying when everyone is sort of working together in a volunteer setting, it is just a nice thing to do.” Being a part of NHS and volunteering in your community also helps with college applications. National Honor Society is a great program to be a part of, it is beneficial to yourself and to your community!
