Start To A New Season
The start of the season is starting off great.
A new wrestling season starts at Central Kitsap High School. With a new season brings new people with new talents and abilities they can bring to the mat. The wrestling team works pretty hard to stay in good shape, doing more conditioning than any other sport, in order to stay within their weight class that they are assigned to compete in.
The wrestlers, when they stray above their desired weight have to take drastic measures to go back within their class. It is important to go down to the lowest weight class possible because it is easier to win if you are wrestling against smaller opponents. One of the more known methods of fast weight loss is doing through an intense workout while wearing layers of sweats as well as a trash bag so they can lose their water weight. In order to avoid those situations wrestlers are very meticulous with their diets, cutting out carbs and simple sugars, as well as drinking a ton of water.
Nate Larson who has wrestled for 6 years and won league champion said “We’re off to a really good start and i think this season is going to go really well, we are putting in that work and doing everything that needs to be done so far. So I do think this season is going to be a good one.”
Their first tournament is Saturday the 2nd, it is at Edmonds Woodway, there are a total of 27 schools going to. Some of the schools going include: Bremerton High School, Lincoln High School, Peninsula High School and many more schools just there are too many to name. Tournaments range from 6 hours to 8 hours. These tournaments and meets are the events that they train so hard for. all the hours spent training/practicing for is all for these meets and tournaments. A Lot of people think that wrestling is very violent and unsafe but that’s not the case they practice safe. The coaches still want them to hurt each other but in a somewhat safe way.
The Cougars wrestling season seems to be off to a good start come out and support them at their first tournament again is this saturday the second at edmonds woodway, be there Cougs!
