The Future Is Madeline
Madeline Grundt will take the world by storm one day
Madeline Grundt. To those her know her well, she is a dork with a heart of gold. To others, she is a powerhouse of epic proportions. Grundt is a senior, she deserves a chance to see how her school career impacts people and how her goals in the future will make the world a better place.
Grundt is quite happy. Depending on the activity, she is almost always smiling. If she ever falls into a bad mood, she can get out of it quickly enough that it won’t cast a shadow over the rest of her day.
“I’m an open person,” Grundt said. Yet she can also be stubborn, which she admits is a flaw.
Grundt is very artistic, according to Motohide Oishi, her Japanese teacher. He called her an A plus student.
“She just does everything,” Oishi said. She helps out her fellow students whenever they need it.
“I love fantasy books,” Grundt said. Her interests also spans into television, movies, and musicals. “Stranger Things” is her favorite show, one that she will binge if given enough time. Her favorite movies are the works of Guillermo del Toro, their majesty often making her giddy with excitement. Disney, however, will always hold a special pace in her heart. Her interests also span into musicals. “RENT” is her favorite.
“She’s super energetic and nice,” Jocee Bouma, sophomore, said. Bouma is close to Grundt, because they share a mutual friend.
Grundt is a part of a military family, with her parents, brother, and dog. As such, she has lived in many different places. She was born in Kings Bay, Ga. From there she moved to Charleston S.C. three different times, Corvallis Ore., Pearl City Hawaii, before finally moving here.
She is also a part of the CKHS band, both wind ensemble and jazz, where she plays the trombone. She is also one of the three drum majors. The low brass section is proud to call her their section leader.
Music is important outside of school as well to Grundt. She will be a part of the instrumental ensemble for Grace Point theater’s production of “The Music Man”, which shows Dec. 1 through 10.
Sports are also a large part of her life. She does both swim and bowling.
“I am most proud of my improvement in swim,” Grundt said.
During the last swim season, she managed to cut 20 seconds off of her 500 starting time. That is the equivalent of going from a 15 minute mile to nine minute one.
Since the bowling season has just begun, there is no telling what heights Grundt will reach this season. She believes her highest score last year was 148 points.
Even if she is unable to beat her previous score, she will have endless enjoyment when it comes to the sport.
She is also a proud member of GSA, even though her commitment to sports often gets in the way of her attending. Grundt does go over the minutes after each meeting in order to keep up with the goings on of the club.
The future will be absolutely be Grundt’s playground! Earlier this year, she was accepted into the University of Alabama. There she plans to major in civil engineering.
The second oldest type of engineering, civil engineering is what builds the bridges and buildings we use everyday. The Tacoma Narrows Bridge was designed by civil engineers, as was the Eiffel Tower, Panama Canal, and the Hoover Dam.
Oishi is extremely proud of her for being accepted into University.
“I hope she returns as a senpai,” Oishi admitted. He will miss her, and the positive influence she is in her classes. He absolutely wishes to keep in contact with her once she graduates.
On an unrelated note, Grundt plans to minor in Japanese.
Grundt has some sound advice to anyone in CK who is struggling with the high school environment.
“Don’t be afraid to try something new. Be willing to break out your shell. It gets boring if you do the same stuff every day.”
If you can do that, you can do anything. Look at Grundt!
