Popularity at Central Kitsap High school is no different than other schools, the social hierarchy is always identifiable by the students. Being socially popular means that most people know you, and you are generally liked by a large amount of the students at school. Although some say the cliques we have at school aren’t necessarily a bad thing. Sophomore student Kyzaiah Wainwright spoke out about his opinion on cliques.

“Everyone has their own group that they stick with, it’s not a bad thing” Wainwright stated.

Elaborating on how as it may seem like cliques are a bad thing, everyone feels inclusive in their friend group. At first glance it may seem like cliques are directly for excluding people, when really it’s just a group of friends with similar interests.

“Having a few close friends is a real benefit in the long run” added Wainwright.

Close friends in high school can stick with you through college, or any other endeavor your life takes you to after graduation.

Sophomore student Caden Hardy feels similarly in respect to cliques, adding to the popularity aspect.

“It’s not about being popular, it’s about the friends that are always there for you” Hardy explains.

Hardy stresses the aspects of a tight relationship, highlighting trust as one of the keys to a lasting friendship. In concerns to popularity, not all of the so called “popular kids” have good relationships. In many cases they feel the need for attention, so they sacrifice lasting relationships for temporary friends.
