Construction Update
The progress of the construction for the new school is going great!
Jan 23, 2018
The Central Kitsap High School (CKHS) and the Central Kitsap Middle School (CKMS) construction that was started over the summer has made a lot of progress. The new combined school is going to be immensely different from the one that we have today.
“Everything is getting changed,” describes Doug Newell, the executive director for business and operations for the School District. “It really gets into having modern spaces for kids to learn, whether it’s having a commons that is two stories with big windows opening up to a courtyard, to a library that’s 21st century, to classrooms that are heated and cooled, to an auditorium that seats 900 people and a full stage and big music rooms.”
The new school has many different and new qualities that will make it very original from the rest of the schools in the Central Kitsap School District. From a huge commons area to better security, this school is going to look great.
“It will be a place that will honor and respect the past, but also really be what our CK Cougars deserve in terms of everybody is working really hard here, we have a wonderful faculty and great kids and what it does is give them the space to do the wonderful work they are doing,” said Principal Gail Danner.
The progress of the construction is moving at a very good pace and is on schedule, the expected finishing date for the school will be by summer of 2019. Some of the areas of the new school that are being worked on are the gyms, commons area, band and choir rooms. There are many projects for the new school that the construction workers are working diligently on right now and those are basically filling in concrete where the floor will be and setting up steel frames. The construction is going to change many of the students lives on how they operate during school and sometimes even after school.
If anyone is interested in learning more about the construction progress Principal Danner will be in the Cafeteria during lunches to answer questions and talk about the construction twice a month starting in February.
