Well, Cougs, it’s that time of year again! Finals season is upon us and with all the stress of studying and figuring out schedules, it might be helpful to take a second to find some good tips.
For many students, finals are worth a huge part of an overall grade which is why it’s important to hit the books. Though studying can be stressful and tedious, there are a myriad of ways to get through it and make it worthwhile. Some students prepare notecards, use colored writing utensils to organize work, or review chapters.
“I usually set a time and set my goals for that study session and just work from there,” said senior Peyton Sytsma, “I probably spend at least an hour on each subject.”
Another good tip for studying is finding the right location. While it may be easy for some to stay in the comfort of their own home, others find it helpful to explore their options.
“[I study] either at home or in the library,” said Sytsma, “Its easier to study in the library because I can focus better.”
Wherever you do it, studying is the key to success. Finding what works for you is important and understanding what to review will always be a major step in preparing for any big test. Another good thing to know is the finals schedule. The finals schedule can be a great opportunity to squeeze in some last minute review and to stay organized.
“It [the schedule] makes sense and I like having a study period before.” said senior Ashyia Wainright.
During testing week, students are given two finals a day for three days, with a one hour study block before each test. While this schedule may seem confusing at first and may be a little inconvenient for some (running start and part-time students), it serves a good purpose. The hour study sessions allow students to get in the proper mindset before diving into a test. So make sure to use that time wisely. Although the mere thought of finals can be intimidating, don’t stress it. Just remember to work hard and know that it will all pay off. During this finals season, stay “dedicated to excellence” and GO COUGS!
