Students at Central Kitsap High School are related to or have parents in the military. The dictionary says military, relating to or characteristic of soldiers or armed forces, has a great responsibility to protect our country and what makes this the land of the free. Having parents that may be sent to a different country, even the front lines, is another. How would you feel if you had to move every two to three years somewhere new?
Isyss Homes said “I feel proud that my parents are fighting for a free country.” Homes also feels she has been to many middle and high schools.
Jennifer Marino did some research on “12 Things You Didn’t Know About Military Families” and found that the average military child will change schools six to nine times. Isyss felt like “Homes had to make friends all over again every time she moved from school to school.”
Military families may have to deal with not seeing their loved ones for months or even years on end. Parents that are in the military may be deployed for a combat operation which is needed in a situation because of his or her’s Military Operational Specialty. If a student’s parent is in the Navy or Marines then they might be a cook or medical specialist for a certain operation.Once your parent is deployed, you won’t always have contact with them until they return unless your parents skype you. Military soldiers that are experts in their craft are the first to be chosen for a mission because of their skills and experience.
In the entire world, the United States spend roughly $609.9 billion on military which is more than any other country by far. Spending so much money on military made it such a popular thing in the US. Eathon Dodson said “Military benefits and discounts come in handy when we i go out to eat or buy things for school.” US.ARMY.com stated that they try to bring a positive atmosphere around the community.
Central Kitsap High School is home to many more military students that do have parents in the military. Tymere Conley said “the majority of this school are army brats.” Tymere also explained how he supports the military. The military gives us the freedom to be able to speak and have a voice in this world.
