CK + Memes = Quality Content for the Students of Central Kitsap
Instagram Page @ckhsmemes and the Students Behind It
February 20, 2018
Popular in 2017, internet memes have followed us into the new year. If you consider yourself a ‘meme god’, enjoy poking fun at CK, or are just looking for dank memes online, look no farther. The @ckhsmemes page on Instagram has some quality content that’s sure to at least put a smile on your face.
You might recall CK meme pages popping up on Instagram late last school year. From fake teacher profiles to administration tribute pages, many were reported and shut down. However, one was left standing and it has been going strong ever since. The page, @ckhsmemes, is run by four anonymous students here at CK (two seniors, one sophomore, and one freshman). The students who go by code names on the site put out all sorts of content from starterpacks to video memes.
Freshman page admin who goes by ‘dickstrides’ had this to say about joining the @ckhsmemes admin team: “There’s not a lot of things that bring a whole community of high schoolers together but everyone likes a good meme. I really wanted to build a better sense of community among cougars.”
A sense of community seems like a pretty noble cause for a high school meme page, but some would disagree. While the page has had its success, the admin who run it have admitted to running into some trouble.
“Yeah, we’ve had people try to expose us,” said sophomore admin ‘george geef’
“We post some stuff that’s uncomfortable. There was a video edit and the teacher’s kid was like ‘I’ll report you’” said senior admin ‘skinnypenis’, “We took it down.”
Although @ckhsmemes has had their fair share of online conflict, they seem to be doing well overall. After about a year, the page is up to about 550 followers. What’s more is the students in charge of it enjoy what they’re doing.
“When you’re posting things anonymously, you can post what you think more,” said ‘skinnypenis’. “We don’t post things that are hateful. We just try to make this dim school a little more brighter.”
“I don’t like that I can’t tell my friends sometimes, like I can’t show off my work but I still really enjoy it. It’s a lot like being Spiderman because everyone knows you exist but they don’t know who you are,” said ‘dickstrides’. “I really like hearing people talk about the memes in school. It puts a smile on my face.”
Whether they’re addressing real school issues or just creating student starterpacks, @ckhsmemes is going to continue putting out quality content. Make sure to follow them on Instagram and keep up with their CK-related memes.
