Game Night: Behind the Scenes
Coding Club plans for Game Night on the 23rd
*Update: February 23rd Game Night has been cancelled.
Game night, a place where students can go and play video games and relax after a hard day of school. It is run and scheduled by Mr. Booth and Coding Club, it occurs 4-5 times a year. The planning begins weeks before the official date to get permissions, plan for food, manage posters and dates. Bring consoles like Xbox (One, 360), Wii, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, even the Ataribox! Students can find an outlet and tv to connect their game console to. Don’t like video games? Station too busy? Don’t worry, there’s board and card games too.
Game Night will be held on Friday, February 23rd and is after school in the library at 5-9 pm. Admission fee will be $5, $3 if food is brought, and $2 if console is brought. Preferably, an hour will be needed before game night begins to set up equipment and catering. Students can bring their own gaming consoles and games, anything is welcome as long as other people treat the consoles with respect. Games like Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Minecraft, Arms, Snipperclips, and others are acceptable. Games like First-Person shooters, Rated-M, or inappropriate card games are not accepted.
“We meet up and plan when we can do it and how we want to do it, then we work on advertising. Some game nights are planned in advance if we want to have a tournament or something special like catering.” Says President, Rebecca Sharp.
There will be food catering and drinks on the side. Like school, there are rules to follow, as in, respect others, take pauses between eating before touching a game console or controller (use a napkin), use indoor voices, keep your hands to yourself, don’t argue if something is taken, there are other options. If those rules aren’t respected or followed, students will be asked to leave game night. But follow the rules and students can stay as long as they want, have fun and possibly make new friends. Be Social!
“With food and drinks, everyone is expected to be respectful and treat the school property in the library well, if they don’t we can ask them to leave.” Says Sky Callantine, a full member of Coding Club. “When you first walk into game night, you have to read a code of conduct before you allowed entry.”
