Tolo ’18 Review

CKHS dances new and improved.

Typically, for high school dances, boys wear a suit and tie (or bow.) Girls wear formal dresses.

Tolo 2018 was a night to remember. Since the past three dances were not receiving good reviews, ASB made a few changes. In the past, Tolo had been on Saturday but this year it was on a Friday because we did not have school. Many students were scared to attend Tolo 2018 due to how homecoming was previously in the year. The music was not loud or danceable, the teachers  had been preventing students from dancing and the lights were on. Thankfully, Tolo 2018 was so much better in students’ opinion!

Junior Autumn Mullins, has attended every dance at CKHS in her high school career. She says, “This years was better than I thought it was going to be. They were all super fun until Sophomore Tolo and that’s when they got strict on the dancing. It was like that for a few more dances and i was so happy when tolo 2018 was actually good this year!”

Autumn stated “They had a swing dance lesson before the dance started, but most people thought it was really weird. They also moved the dj into the middle of the gym, which I actually liked.” She plans on attending another CKHS dance in the future because she loves making memories.

Mullins rates Tolo ‘18 a “6 because there was no one there. I felt they could’ve played more newer and popular songs, it seems like at every dance recently they play the same old songs.”

Junior Abby Quam, has been to every dance at CKHS in her high school career as well. She was NOT a fan of tolo this year. Quam explained, “I stayed for about thirty minutes because the whole atmosphere wasn’t exciting and the music was bad. Some people might have had fun, but I personally didn’t.”

While some students noticed some changes teachers made, Quam did not. She said, “It was more strict than previous dances in my opinion. One of my friends was milly rocking and got in trouble because it was considered “inappropriate.”

The only reason that she will attend another CKHS dance is because she loves the process of getting ready, feeling pretty and plus she’ll be a senior next year. One comment Quam made was, “I understand the teachers are hesitant to allow explicit music, but at least allow music with the words censored out. It would be a lot easier to have fun if we heard music we actually know and like, especially current music.” This is a great thought in students’ opinions!

There are many different opinions of Tolo this year but a poll taken showed that more students liked Tolo rather than disliked it. Hopefully, more students will go to future dances at CKHS, it was a fun and enjoyable night for both staff and students.
