The Third Film to the Maze Runner Series
Three out of five star movie.
Feb. 20—A jam packed movie, with a heart breaking love story in a post apocalyptic word, with sickening zombies, and a group of teenagers trying to save the world. The Maze Runner: Death Cure had a very good running start but seemed to die down. The movie is pretty long and quite confusing, so much stuff is smashed into the two hours and twenty-three minutes.
The Maze Runner is a movie trilogy that is about this company named WCKD that raises kids to find a cure for a disease called “the flare”. The kids are put through certain situations to determine if they are immune to the disease or not. These three movies are specifically about this one group that start off in a maze. “The Maze Runner” is Thomas, obviously the main character, he runs the maze alongside Minho. The two of them find a way to escape the maze and bring a couple other people with them. The second movie, “Scorch Trials” is just the kids that were in the maze escape from WCKD again and find a group of people that want to take down WCKD, so they become friends and unite.
In the first 10 minutes of “The Death Cure”, you see Thomas and his friends trying to stop this WCKD train for some reason. They are trying to get the kids out of the train hoping one of them is Minho, but he wasn’t there. Thomas and a couple other people decide to go look for Minho in the last city, they don’t know where it is or if it even exists. It just so happens to exist, but has a huge wall around it. They found a way in but now realize they can’t get into the WCKD compound. They kidnap Thomas’s old lover, Teresa, that used to be a part of their group but now works for WCKD. So now Thomas has two lovers working in the same place, Brenda and Teresa. They make some grand scheme to get into WCKD and there’s a lot of fighting and people dying but they find Minho and get him to safety.
The only part that really chokes you up is when Newt (Thomas’s close friend) gets infected by “the flare” and fights with Thomas. Newt keeps going back and forth telling Thomas to kill him and then going back to trying to eat his face off. It’s ironic because Newt dies right as Brenda is running towards them with the serum to cure him and keep him alive. Pretty sure there were no dry eyes in the theater. After all that chaos happens, Thomas goes back to help Teresa because she cured “the flare” completely with his blood. Thomas and Teresa try to escape the WCKD building because it is on fire and falling to pieces. Teresa helps Thomas onto the plane with his friends but Teresa falls to her death like Gwen in the Spider-man movie, very cheesy. The very end of the movie Thomas finds a note Newt left for him and you could just feel everyone’s heart break in the theater while he was reading it.
The movie in my opinion was a 3 out of 5. They rushed the movie, maybe they could have split it into two parts like “The Hunger Games” or “Harry Potter” did. The ending was terrible. Thomas and only a few of his friends were left to go to the “safe haven”. The very last scene of the movie was Thomas standing on the beach with the 100% perfect serum to cure “the flare” in his hand. You think he is going to throw it into the water but the screen blacks out and that’s the end.
