Softball is in full-swing, and there’s lots going on this season. Varsity and JV have had their ups and downs, but have yet to lose hope and are both still going strong. Elizabeth Young, a senior shortstop on Varsity, is pretty positive about the season and vibe of the team.

“We are already a good team,” says Young, “And if the girls continue to learn and grow the team will be unstoppable in future years.”

Courtney Cotter, CK’s fastpitch coach for 11 years, says that the season has been good, but there have been challenges that come with lots of young players. Adrianna Engelstad, a junior on JV, agrees, though she is seeing the season as positive as possible.

“Its [sic] a really good vibe, the team works really well with each other,” says Engelstad. 

Young plans on playing for college and has signed a letter of intent with Pacific University in California. Cotter played for North Dakota University as a part of her 25 years of softball experience that she has. Engelstad is keeping her college focus purely academic and does not intend upon playing for a team after high school.

As for the rest of this season, there are still a few more schools to play. Engelstad claims that Gig Harbor is the worst school to play against, while Young says it is Yelm.

Cotter is excited to further the season, noting that there are some serious rising stars on JV. She also thinks there are some promising students who will be joining CKHS next year as freshmen, and is glad that there is a middle school softball program again.

One way or another, be sure to keep tabs on the team as they finish out the season, and look for some exciting plays in the future.
