National Teacher Appreciation Day is here! This day is special to all teachers across the globe and this day is where they get to be special for day from there students. In this day, students can show how much they appreciate their teachers for all the work they done for them.

This day is taken place on May 8 every year in the U.S. In 1953 an Arkansas teacher wrote Eleanor Roosevelt to recognize and honor the nation’s teacher. Mrs. Roosevelt persuaded the Congress to make a day in May as National Teacher Appreciation Day. Around 1944 Arkansas teacher Mattye Whyte Woodridge began corresponding with political and education leaders about the need for a national day to honor teachers. Woodridge wrote to Eleanor Roosevelt, who in 1953 persuaded the 81st Congress to proclaim a National Teacher Day. When this happened, things changed for teachers across the U.S.

“This day means that we appreciate and care for our teachers, also recognize what they do everyday for us. This day also means how they care about their students, so we should try and care for them too.” says, sophomore Kate Bogner.

This day is celebrate because teachers work hard, inspire us, and teach us about the real world. They give us knowledge, so we can know what to do when we are on our own. They inspire us to do the things that we want to do when we grow up. They especially work hard to plan their lessons, spend their money on school supplies, answer any questions we might have, and help us pass the class successfully. So this day, students take their time to say thank you, give gifts, and hugs.

“I think it should be celebrate because these people are putting in the effort to educate you and they don’t have to be doing that.” says sophomore Jenna Kramer.

Bogner explains why the day should be celebrated, “It should be celebrated because we should recognize what the teachers do for students each day.”

There are different ways to thank a teacher for their hard work. Students can give them gifts, like gifts baskets that has their favorite things in it, even an apple. Students can give them a bouquet of flowers with pictures of both of the student and the teacher. If students can’t afford that, they can give them a speech from there heart or write it down for them. Use social media, to show to everyone that they mean something to the student. Students could host a breakfast in the cafeteria for teachers.

Kramer explains what she would give to her teacher, “I usually would give them gifts or just something to show them, that they are doing their job well.”

This day can show how much students appreciate their teacher, students can do different things for the teachers they really like and feel like they are care for their students. Teachers today will appreciate what students do for them and they will be grateful, every year they will look forward to this day.

Bonger talks about her teacher, “I appreciate Mr. McCarthy maybe because he is super kind and caring, you can tell that he care about his students and their education.”

Kramer also talks about her teacher, “I probably show my appreciation to Mr. Campbell because he is a friendly teacher but still can get your work done in his class.”

Some students have a favorite teacher they want show their appreciation to. Letting there teacher know what they do for them in the class that they are in.

This day can be shared with teachers, principals, lunch staff, and even students. This day is about sharing, respecting each other, and being civil with each other. On this day, teachers can show they appreciate their students by saying thank you to them too, for their hard work. This day is dearly close to all the people who worked in different school districts. This happens across the globe and teachers are dearly appreciated for the for this day.
