In the cafeteria of CKHS, a common sight are the murals that decorate the walls. The combined creativeness from Mrs. Adam’s senior art students go from paper to concrete as they all work together and showcase their mural.

Previously painted murals displayed many events that happened in their respective years. Other painted murals like the 2016’s painters had painted a postcard that shows icons that represent what school was like during their time and people who had affected their year like Alan Rickman’s passing. Recently the 2015 mural was painted over in order to make space for the current graduating class of 2018.  The 2015 mural’s theme was constellations that all formed together to create a cougar. Each star represented an individual within CKHS and had representations of clubs like FCCLA or Honor Society.

Students of all years are starting to speculate about how the mural will look like.

“I think that it’s going to be very artistic. I feel like it will include popular references, and stuff that means a lot to us all.” said freshmen Cara Murphy.

“I think that the mural is going to represent the spirit of the senior class.” said freshmen Joanna Ferrer.

“I think a good idea for a mural would be…I like the idea of a cougar kinda like cougar pride and the popular slogan ‘Go Cougs’ and maybe like the old school as a background because it’s getting torn down so like 1950 to like 2019,” said senior Brad Martel.

“Pretty artsy,” said another senior.

The Mural Committee is excited for their mural to debut, the students are hard at work; they have already recruited people to make designs for the mural and uses an art program to develop their sketch further. Some of their ideas for the mural try to make students aware of certain issues like cleaning up the environment.

“We’re trying to tie environment themes into it because we feel our school is really working towards environmentally friendly and sustainable cafeterias” said senior Skye Southern.

They are also trying to tie many major events that occurred during their years like “a little presidential election or the ground breaking, the walk out, the skits and lip syncs, and the prom theme,” said senior and person-in-charge Treys Neptune. Neptune has been excited to work on this mural and was previously exposed to the work for it because of his brothers who were also a part of their respective year’s committee.

There are a lot of designs that make this mural different from the other murals, some of the factors that adds their own twist are “lots of color,” said Southern.

“It’s different and nature, lots of greenery,” added Neptune.

The committee hopes that the mural will bring up feelings of nostalgia and a sense of peace.

“We want Seniors to kind of like envision their four years in the mural and to kinda remember their time at CK,” said Neptune. The mural is a great way to represent all of CK’s graduating senior class and the events that shaped their time here.
