Influenza claimed the lives of roughly 61,000 people in 2018. Over the years, the numbers continue to increase; more and more people are affected by the flu. Many are uneducated about ways to prevent themselves from catching this often deadly illness.

Simple tasks, such as washing hands before and after eating can prevent sickness. Here are other safety tips for staying healthy.

  1. Get a flu shot! The best thing to do in order to prevent sickness is getting a flu shot. Flu shots are available at many stores; plus they are free!
  2. Maintain healthy habits, and influence others to do the same. Being in high school makes a student very prone to practice unhealthy habits. Sharing drinks/food, touching hand rails, or even being in a room with someone that is sick are all very easy ways to get anybody sick. Keeping hands washed and using hand sanitizer are easy, and they will help a lot.
  3. Eat balanced meals and stay hydrated. Eating balanced meals and drinking plenty of water helps the immune system function properly. Having a variety of nutritious food gives your body the power to fight illnesses.
