“Twilight,” the record-breaking novel written by Stephanie Meyer was released back in the fall of 2006. The aftermath was a whirlwind of vampire mania and a battle between Team Jacob and Team Edward. 

Nonetheless, the series supposedly came to a close in 2008, when “Breaking Dawn” was released. The series moved to the back of the bookcase and the movies were quickly released, starting in 2008 and ending in 2012, giving the fans a final look into the fairytale-filled town of Forks, Washington.

However, fans got a sudden surprise from Meyer, when she announced on her website that “Midnight Sun,” the long awaited companion to the series, would be released in August 2020, telling the story through the dreamy eyes of Edward Cullen.

The response was ecstatic. It immediately claimed the top spot of the New York Times Best Sellers, selling one million copies in the first week. 

Fans were so excited to get their hands on the book, they didn’t bother actually discussing the contents for a while. When they finally did,  it was obvious that Edward was more melodramatic than ever expected. The ever pessimistic tone of the book gave light to the way Edward acted from Bella’s perspective. 

The reality of his world was extremely heavy and informed the readers as to why he acted the way he did. 

Furthermore, one of the most notable scenes in the book was when Bella and Edward first met. From Bella’s perspective, the occurrence is at most highly awkward, but from Edward’s point of view, the scene is extremely intense as he fights between his morals and his senses. 

In fact, the almost entirety of Edward’s strange personality is explained. Through Bella’s point of view, the continuation of their relationship is extremely important and is the main purpose of her life. Though this is not untrue for Edward, there is more responsibility from his end.

He had pressure from his family, his community, and himself all piling on his shoulders, which explains his incessant somber mood. 

However, readers also get to experience their relationship through his eyes, which is extremely interesting. Unlike Bella, Edward was not instantaneously attracted to Bella, but rather fell for her through her kind-natured quirks. 

This also helps the reader learn more about Bella. They experience a quiet kindness from her that had never been observed before. 

Overall, the book gives fans a new perspective into the Twilight series and that can never go underappreciated.
