The Girl’s Soccer Team Trounce River Ridge On Their Way to The Playoffs
Lady Cougars win to build momentum into playoff push
As uncomfortably freezing the weather was on the night of Oct 24th, the action on the field was red hot with the lady soccer Cougars wasting no time scoring early less than 2 minutes in the game.

The soccer team scored two of their goals in the beginning of the halves and two goals in the end of the halves winning against River Ridge 4-0, showing how lethal they can be on the offensive side rapidly. The girl’s varsity team showed excellent strength on all parts of the game, scoring 4 goals and defensively not letting the River Ridge offense show any threat of attempting any shots to CK’s goalie.
“We have tried to implement a style of soccer that continues to be relentless on the attacking end, but still pretty composed defensively,” Assistant Coach Patrick Leonard says.
Coming off an chaotic homecoming week this year with the cancellation of Thursday’s game against Yelm on Thursday due to air quality, the team still cruised on their way to the playoffs this weekend.
“It was just about maintaining some sort of normalcy or consistency even though the smoke was getting in the way in the game – keep it as routine as we possibly could,” Leonard said.
This is the team’s first home win in the month of October and had been a whole month since their last win at home against Timberline on Sept 22nd last month.
Savannah Reece, who is committed to Eastern Washington University Next Year, scored the fourth and final goal with a free goal kick to end the game against River Ridge.
This year’s girls soccer team is following the road to get back to the level of playoff success before the pandemic in 2019, when they finished 3rd in state for Division 3A. The 12 seniors in the soccer program this year were freshmen in 2019 and even some players like Savannah Reece played on the varsity team that year, which gives some playoff experience for the upcoming playoffs.
“The fact that we have players and coaches that have been a part of [playoffs] sets us up…and carries weight because they’ve gone through it and other girls recognize that,” Leonard adds.
This year’s CK girls’ soccer teams have so far continued their winning ways as with the Junior Varsity team (who also dominated River Ridge 16-0) currently 13-1-2 on a nine game winning streak scoring 60-0 goals in that span. The Varsity girls’ team this year, with a respectable record of 10-4-1, looks to get back into the playoffs this weekend yet again with this momentum, their four losses only coming from competition against Gig Harbor and Peninsula respectively twice.
