On Dec. 17, Central Kitsap brought home a win against Mount Tahoma, with the final score being 32-4. CK controlled the pace of the game from start to finish, leaving Mount Tahoma struggling to find any offensive rhythm or scoring power.
Central Kitsap was first on the board with an effortless 2-pointer made by Marlee Jernigan, jersey number 32. Mount Tahoma turned over the ball many times, letting many shots get taken from Central Kitsap. This led to a total of three more 2-pointers, one each from Addie Hasty (jersey number 10), Jernigan, and GG Garcia (jersey number 3). By the end of the first quarter CK was up 8-0.
Central Kitsap went on to score four more points with a free throw from Sydney Roberson (jersey number 5), Addie Hasty (jersey number 10), and a 3rd 2-pointer from Jernigan. Late in the 2nd quarter Mount Tahoma responded with a 2-pointer from Aniyah Abdullah (jersey number 22), with the score at half time being 12-2, CK in the lead.
In the 3rd quarter CK went on to score 13 more points. One free throw from Hasty, Jernigan, Roberson, and 2 free throws from Garcia. Izzy Griffin (jersey number 21) and Roberson went on to score one 2-pointer each while Hasty made two 2-pointers.
The 4th quarter came around and CK continued to dominate with a 2-pointer from Roberson and Olivia Keehn. The first 3 pointer of the game was made by CK’s Hannah Huish (jersey number 4). Mount Tahoma got two more points on the board from Chiamaka Uchendu (jersey number 24) to end the game 32-4, Central Kitsap.
Central Kitsap High School’s Girls Junior varsity basketball team played a nearly perfect game. Their defense only allowed four points to Mount Tahoma, and they made many great shots, finishing with 32 points.
“Everyone was taking a ton of shots, and it was really helping to work on confidence, and I also think that we had really good passes and our defense was impeccable,” said Griffin.
Keehn and Huish who are normally on CK’s C-Team scored five combined points in the 4th quarter.
“Tonight’s game went really well,” Griffin said. “It was a ton of fun. I loved getting to play with some of the C-Team girls who swung up.”
Players like Jernigan, Hasty, and Garcia were key contributors to the team, dominating from start to finish. Central Kitsap’s win highlighted how strong their defense is and how willing they are to shoot any chance they get.
