On March 12 at 3:30 P.M. families gathered at the CKHS baseball field to witness the first game of the season. The game lasted well into 6:00 P.M., with Fife High School winning 8-5. Even through the chilling cold and wind, families stayed through the game to cheer on the teams.
With this being the first game of the season, many fans came to witness the game. With the bleachers filled, it was easy to rely on loud cheers when a team scored. Despite the loss, fans are optimistic about the outcome.
“I’m confident about the team we have this year — this is one little bump in the road. It’s better to have [losses] earlier in the season then later,” CKHS student Jaden Williams said.
Even with support from fans, CK’s team doesn’t all feel the same. With members like JJ Martinson expressing concern after the game.
“We started off rough, but starting off isn’t gonna help,” Martinson said.

In the first inning, Central Kitsap walked Fife five times in a row, allowing them their first point. CK’s time on the field would end afterwards with 1-0 Fife, even though Fife had never hit the ball. This style wouldn’t end as Fife would make more similar plays with Central Kitsap gaining points in between.
Most points were gained from team mishaps on both sides. Early on, CK missed throws to 3rd and 1st base, leaving Fife time to run the bases. CK slowed this down toward the end as they started to get in their element.
Above all else, both teams played hard, even with the cold and wind. After the game, weather kicked teams and fans alike off the field with a sudden downpour. The season has only started with many more games to come, with fans like Williams optimistic for the season.
“…Everything is gonna be alright,” Williams said.
