On September 12 The Central Kitsap Cougars went against long standing rival Olympic Trojans. The score was 40-6 with Olympic using their built up momentum to seal the game. This meeting followed the same trend as last year’s, with Olympic winning the match-up 43-6.
With a rivalry dating back to 1979, Central Kitsap players have had this event marked as the game to win as fans had this down as the game to attend. The stands were packed full of students and parents, while the band lead by Lexie Durban played popular hits like Rockin’ Robin by Bobby Day and Runaway Baby by Bruno Mars. The student section followed cheerleaders in chants and cheers with the theme of Red White and Blue apparent within the entire section.

“When it comes to just getting a win in the season, this is probably one of our biggest games of the season,” Said Wide Receiver Vincent Fabrega. “It means a lot to myself, the coaches and the rest of the team as well.”
Central Kitsap only scored one time in the game with their only points coming from a kick return touchdown. The Olympic High School punter kicked the ball to a CKHS player and he scored a touchdown off of the catch. This was then followed by a blocked field goal attempt by CKHS Kicker Leo Bosh.
Even with this loss against a rival of 46 years, Olympic is not a conference game meaning this loss should have little to no effect on playoff chances.
This game is similar to a “Protected” college football game. A protected game is a game not truly affecting any standing positions, however could be played for things like tradition or branding. In this case, a tradition.

“This game was a non-league (conference) match so in this circumstance it doesn’t really matter, at least for playoffs,” Said Fabrega. “But it’s still a good thing to get this win in the case for the Central Kitsap legacy.”
