Cercle Français!

Bienvenue à Cercle Français!

Cercle Français!

by Rain Griswold, Editor-in-Chief

Central Kitsap High School French teacher, Kimberly Yee, has reinstated a French Club.

En français, le club s’appelle “Cercle français!”

The club meets on Tuesdays one time each month and meetings last around an hour.

In French Club, students have the opportunity to learn about interesting and new Francophone topics and be exposed to a culture which may be completely new to them.

“Each month we do a learning activity where it’s something cultural that ties to the month and we eat something that ties to the culture,” Yee says. In the first meeting, students participated in a Kahoot quiz and learned a bit about where Croissants come from. This month, students involved in the club will enjoy macarons and chocolate croissants, which are both desert staples in France.

“We learn about French culture and some French history along with eating French food,” freshman Klara Madan says. “So far, we’ve had croissants and lots of chocolate.”

Yee is open to any and all suggestions students may have regarding what they learn and do within the club.

“If there are any ideas people have, the schedule is not set so we can learn about anything,” Says Yee. She hopes to inspire students to embrace French culture.

“I’m hoping to learn more about French culture and things they [the French] celebrate that we don’t.” Madan stated.

Currently, there are around 7-10 students participating in the group, however, everyone is welcome.

Yee’s inspiration to reinstate French Club lies in her past teaching experiences, “At my previous school, we had a French Club and it was really fun.”

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, December 10.
