The Best Teenage Dramas
A list review of the movies Prom (2011), The Prom (2020), High School Musical 3: Senior Year (2008), Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986), 10 Things I Hate About You (1999)
I believe that movies are the best way to talk about relatable issues that will last a while. Especially movies that deal with teen issues, I think that most times when I watch one I feel as though they understand the teenage experience.
I decided that I would review several movies that deal with teenage drama. They all have pivotal moments within the high school experience. Without further ado I’m giving you a hot take on Prom (2011), The Prom (2020), High School Musical 3: Senior Year (2008), Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986), 10 Things I Hate About You (1999).
- 10 Things I Hate About You– This movie will always be an iconic classic. There is nothing that can top this movie in my mind, everything about it is perfect. I think that this movie started my obsession with enemies to lovers, and Kat Stradford is an absolute icon that should live into the next century.
- The Prom- I feel a connection to this movie because it’s a musical (and who doesn’t love those) but it also deals with hard hitting topics. If you don’t know The Prom is about a few celebrities helping a young lesbian who was kicked out of her prom. They help her and her girlfriend realize that they don’t have to hide themselves. I think that the overall message of the movie is important for all kids, not just high school students, especially during a time when all I hear about is children and sexuality.
- High School Musical 3: Senior Year- I feel bad, this used to be my least favorite movie out of the series. After rewatching it I realized that I didn’t give this movie enough credit, the soundtrack is impeccable. I think that I found myself dancing along without releasing it. The only thing that brought it down on the list was the fact that it was much cheesier than the other movies. It feels as though the composer was keeping the story alive, not the story writers.
- Ferris Bueller’s Day Off- There is really nothing special about this movie. I really don’t know what else to say. I get why it had such a big appeal when it came out but that is all gone now.
- Prom- Again I don’t really know what to say. I feel as though it fell flat, like I get the premise but nothing special. I guess maybe it’s one of those things you have to experience to get it because my friend’s mom told me I would love it.
All in all I had a great time watching all of the movies but some of them were really disappointing because they weren’t the addictive classics that everyone said they were.
